Christmas Madness

AKA Cookie Making

It's that time of year to make more cookies then anyone could possibly ever eat, hand them out to people who probably made a billion of their own and call it Christmas.

So today is our day
so far we have made:
Gingerbread men
sugar cookies
chocolate chip cookies
and Mexican Wedding cookies

still up, Peanut butter cookies

So we made these guys and used a simple pinterest icing for the best sugar cooking icing.  it's pretty yuck.  powdered sugar, milk, corn syrup and lemon juice ugh

So then searching for a good icing recipe (love my fb friends ) I might have over cooked my sugar cookies.
anyway this is a good recipe. I was concerned at first as the "dough" is really loose (like peas) but it comes together enough to roll out and leaves you with a plain boring sugar cookie.
as you can tell Sugar cookies are not my favorite, but a good icing makes a good cookie so my Facebook friends came to my rescue and with in minutes i had 5 recipes.  i went with the first one up.
somewhere on this pageJenny Cookies
Is this recipe
It's pretty good!

My favorite cookes are these

those i might have ate a few :)

Lonesome Point, Texas, Book Four

This ride is going to last a lot longer than eight seconds…

Female professional bull rider, Reece Hearst, graduated from the school of hard knocks. With honors. Because life is like bull riding—when it sends you to the dirt, you do whatever it takes to get on your feet, even if you have to crawl. Like when officials stripped her of her rodeo queen title on the basis of vicious gossip years ago and not even her father would believe her side of the story. Reece could have stayed in the dust, wallowing. Instead, she fixed Lonesome Point in her rearview, joined the pro circuit, and never looked back. But now a serious injury threatens to end her career and she’s back in Lonesome Point, living next door to the family that once made her life a living hell.

After multiple tours of duty in Afghanistan and his father’s death, all Grayson Parker wants is to get his family’s cattle business back in the black and live a quiet life. But the return of Reece Hearst opens old wounds, throwing his ordered world into chaos. Grayson was serving overseas when Reece was a teenager and can’t believe the girl he once knew has grown into a heartbreaker as hardened as she is beautiful.

Grayson finds a kindred spirit in wounded Reece and soon longs to be the man to show her that there is life after pain and loss. But can two people as damaged as Reece and Grayson find their way to happily ever after? Or will the scars on their hearts forever keep them apart?

New York Times and USA Today bestselling author, Jessie Evans, gave up a career as an international woman of mystery to write the sexy, contemporary romances she loves to read.

She's married to the man of her dreams, and together they're raising a few adorable, mischievous children in a cottage in the jungle. She grew up in rural Arkansas, spending summers running wild, being chewed by chiggers, and now appreciates her home in a chigger-free part of the world even more.

When she's not writing, Jessie enjoys playing her dulcimer (badly), sewing the worlds ugliest quilts to give to her friends, going for bike rides with her house full of boys, and drifting in and out on the waves, feeling thankful for sun, surf, and lovely people to share them with.

Reece was anticipating being told to buy her own damned beer, but after a long, silent beat, Broody turned to the bartender and lifted a hand.
“Whatever the lady wants,” he rumbled in a gravelly voice that made Reece’s skin prickle. “Add it to my tab.”
“I’ll have a Blue Moon, extra orange slice.” Reece smiled at the bartender as she slid onto the stool next to her tortured cowboy. “Thanks for the drink. You been here long?”
“About an hour,” the man replied, moving his hat to his other side and resuming his moody glaring into the amber liquid inside his pint glass. “I’m heading out soon.”
“I meant in Lonesome Point, not the bar,” Reece said. “You look like you’ve been around long enough to get sick of the small town bullshit.”
He stretched his neck from one side to the other but kept his attention fixed on the bar. “Small town, big city…bullshit’s all the same.”
Reece nodded, mulling that over while she thanked the bartender and squeezed her two orange slices into her beer. “I guess so, but there are more places to get away from it in the city. More places where nobody knows your name.”
“I don’t know your name.” Broody’s attention shifted her way as she took a long drink of the ice-cold beer.
She moaned softly in appreciation as the cold bubbles dulled the edges of her headache. She knew it was probably just the pain pill kicking in, but there was still something magical about an ice-cold beer.
“No, you don’t.” She grinned up at him as she wiped the foam from her upper lip with a sensuous sweep of her thumb, not missing the way the man’s eyes lingered on her mouth. “And why don’t we keep it that way? I won’t tell you my name and you won’t tell me yours. We can be each other’s place where nobody knows our name.”
Mr. Tortured nodded and the hint of a smile curved his full lips. “Sounds like a plan, Shortstack.”
Reece arched one brow. “Because I’m short and stacked?”
Adorably, the man blushed in response. “It was the first short person nickname that came to mind. Haven’t taken a good look at the other.”
“Well, go ahead,” Reece said, holding his gaze, relishing the tension beginning to thicken the air between them. “I don’t mind.”
After a moment, the man leaned closer, but his eyes didn’t waver from hers. “I don’t treat women that way.”
“Then how do you treat women?” Reece asked, shifting until her leg brushed his. “I’m curious.”
“Curiosity can be dangerous,” he said in a husky voice that made Reece’s nipples tighten and her next sip of beer go straight to her head. “What if I’m not a nice guy?”
“What if I’m not a nice girl?” Reece countered, setting her beer down and bringing her hand to rest on his thigh, relishing the rock hard muscles beneath the denim.
Oh yeah, this man definitely had what she was looking for, and then some.

My Review:
"Each time i think i chose a new book boyfriend, Jessie goes and ruins it by writing a better one. I LOVE Grayson. I love a broody man and i have a picture in my head of big bulky broody man named Grayson. Love Love Love!

Anyway, Reece left town 12 years ago when her father didn't believe her about an attempted rape from her Teacher. Fast forward 12 years, Reece finds herself injured and unable to ride bulls, looking for a place to crash. Knowing her parents are not home she chooses to crash at their house. Getting into town she runs into a broody stranger, share a few drinks and goes home with him. To wake up and discover he is the son of the man who caused her to leave town.
Grayson is instantly taken with Reece and when he learns who she is, he works to earn her trust in spite of his dad. Several bumps and threats along the way brings Reece to trust in her feelings for Grayson and look for her happy ending, but just as they start, something happens...

It's a great read, once again i found myself crying towards the end. Very well written. Now i will patiently await the next one :)"

Llama Drama

Got Toddlers?
My youngest kiddos love Llama Llama books
We own one and found a site online to read more.  if i run into some more at the book fair I will be required to buy more.
Llama Llama has lots of drama
The books are quick reads, about 35 pages, with short easy flowing sentences that are fun even for this mom to read. Of Course when Llama Llama has Llamadrama, you have to say it very loud and exaggerate it to help Llama's point

Llama Llama, Lots of Drama! all LLama books are fun to read with my toddlers. Can't go wrong with any Llama story!

The world's best meat grinder

(note, this is my claim not anyone else's don't sue me :) )

This meat grinder has done some serious work.  a number of deer i can't count, 100's of tough chicken legs we turned into chicken sausage.  pork roast on sale? turn it into sausage.

This bad boy just keeps working with very minimal up keep.

My father in law recieved it for a christmas present many years ago (8? 9?) and he brought it up to my house to work up a deer....It never went home, i stole it and now we do most of our grinding.  I just love this machine.

I don't have a link for the exact one i have, but here's a link to one made by the company!

I've saved some serious coin over the years grinding our own meat and someday we will get around to buying a beef and save even more money!

Canvas Lap top bag anyone?

So this neat thing happened a few weeks ago.  I got an email.  This is so and so from such and such company, we seen you are an amazon top reviewer and was wondering if you would like to tryout and review our canvas bag for us.
Um free, Yep, I dig free.
So about a week later this canvas bag comes in the mail! well packed for some odd reason including bubble wrap, so as far as packaging goes, over kill.
Anyway, I hand the bag to Erika, say abuse this thing and tell me what you think.  (my kids are hard on everything and go through several book bags a year because i am basically cheap)
One week out and the bag looks good as new, the seams all look strong and the zippers work perfect (buy a cheap bag and you will see why i say that)  the inside is padded for a laptop, but we have not tested this theory out as Erika has a school issued bag for her laptop.
 Pretty outside, different pockets inside
So my review is posted and i will try and remember to update it as the bag is used more.  I'm gonna turn it into a snack/diaper bag for Sat. basketball game!
This bag is strong and durable and my 13 yo loves it. Its seams are all very tough, zippers work well. I told my daughter to take it to school and abuse it and she has had zero failures. She's pretty rough on bags and typically goes through 2-3 a school year, ripping zippers or seams. I'm confidant this will last longer. Only had it one week, but I will refresh this review when she causes damage.

The outside of the bag has a nice graphic. The inside of the bag is well padded. I do not think I would toss a laptop in then play Frisbee with the bag, but I believe it would protect through daily school use.

So they are now sending me a flash card that records to test drive.  who wants to have a meeting to try this bad boy out?? lol.

Christmas Decorating

Yeah it's December, Decorate the tree, make cookies, hang lights, get ready for Christmas

WAIT, WHAT??? do you know what they will do to decorations?  My kids destroy everything, not to mention the fact that they will take it upon themselves to eat every last cookie in 12 hours to prevent me from gaining 100 lbs. (very considerate don't you think?)

So this year, we change things.  We put up that 9 yo Christmas tree , we hand $4 worth of dollar store lights, the we make our ornaments!  Construction paper here we come!  Now it doesn't matter if we destroy it, it doesn't cost much and we can do it again next year!
So paper chain, check! oh wait now what?  I'm not creative.... Pinterest here we come!
my pinterest follow my boards, i might do something neat someday :)
This is easy right?  I mean i have glue sticks, i have Popsicle sticks, I have some fussy balls and glitter and crayons.  WE CAN DO IT. Oh wait, what? i need real glue because glue sticks will never work?  wait, it's stuck in Ellie's hair, why is Jay pink?  Another trip to the store for real glue and we are off again.
Tada I'm awesome!
Step three: Learn a new language
Ok so this isn't the real link i used, but in my mega knowledge of all things pinterest i might have forgotten to repin this one.  But this is a 2 for one, follow the pictures, see what i did and learn a new language all at once.  put seriously cut a bunch of circles, fold in half, glue one side to the side of another circle and repeat until you have about 10 circles together then glue the first circle to the last circle, hole punch it somewhere and attach a string.  prepare for the glue nightmare this will cause.  i had to wash the table a million times.
Wala another ornament.  good job mom

Now for project 4: i did this all on my own :)
snag some cookie cutters, trace them on paper, cut them out, have a cute kid like this one color them, whole punch, attach string and hang! easy peasy.
^^^^ Cute kid

And hang
^^^ more cute kids! nice job kids
Don't forget to find a picture of the tree without the nakid child in it :)
^^^ 2 weeks later, notice the lopsided ornaments and the row of lights no longer missing.
Happy holidays folks enjoy it.

Kindle unlimited

I signed up for kindle unlimited a few months back.  I've been up and down on my feelings about the service.  for those of you who do not know, Kindle unlimited is $9.99 a month, you can check out up to 10 books that are on the service for as long as you want, but only 10 at a time.  they also offer a free month trial period.  When you decide to cancel your subscription, all the books are returned.
To the author whose book you are reading, if you read past 10% they get a small amount ( i have no idea what this amount is) for allowing that book to be in the program.
So the Plus
1.) Lots of books to read that are not always free (remember i am cheap)
2.) good way to find Indie authors without tossing money at an unknown
3.) you can read as many books a month as you want
4.) I've read several great series i otherwise would not have read for $10 a month!
And the Minus
1.) Lots of my favorite authors do not participate
2.) Missing out on a lot of great books because my monthly book money is going to unlimited
3.) Might encourage you to read to much
4.) might be addicting
5.) rumor is it does not pay the author much
6.) rumor is if an author sells their books on other platforms (aka ibooks, nook) they can not participate

Over All I find Kindle Unlimited to be a great deal.  I've paid monthly without complaint.  I cancelled my subscription this month because i am back logged with free books to read and books to read for review.  I don't see why i would pay if i'm not using it.  So overall,, It's a pretty decent deal for the reader, it will bring new readers to writers, but i'm not sure how it treats the author.

My Santa, My Elf

Coming to An Amazon Store Near You Soon
(said in my best announcer voice)

My Santa, My Elf by Lisa Crane

Last night in my inbox showed up a new Christmas short story from Lisa!  Boom, I ditched the book i was reading and got started.  By 11 pm I had finished my read, sent my thoughts and review off to Lisa and climbed into bed cheesing like crazy.

5 stars!
My Santa, My Elf
Lisa Crane
Will be availale later this week on, I will post a link up as soon as i have it.
My review
"Short fun little Christmas story. Short stories can be so hard because you can't punch everything you need into under 50 pages, or can you?  Lisa Crane has a wonderful ability of taking a light approach at a whimsical, whirlwind love story.  Giving you a beginning, some drama and a happily ever after. My Santa, My Elf is no different.
The grandson of the owner, Jensen, is playing Santa and when his "elf" breaks her leg, the "dragon lady" (this had me cracking up) ask Piper, the housewares worker, to step in.  Jensen has been admiring Piper from a far for years, now he has his chance to wow her, but wait that nasty secretary is going to foul things up.

Great read, I had a cheesy grin on my face the whole time.  It's very magical, whimsical and Christmasy"

Be on the lookout for this fun short read!

A year and a half ago I started reading books by Lisa Crane, I read her series McKenna's Haven and sent her an email to let her know how much i enjoyed it (except the title to book two and I'll never stop pestering her about that lol) She brought me to the world of facebook and taught me the importance of leaving reviews and how they help authors out greatly.  This was my start, now I've written over 300 various reviews and now get contacted to read books or try products all thanks to me being cheap, reading free books and tossing up simple reviews.

Here's Lisa's author page on Amazon Lisa Crane.  Go follow her and get update, anytime someone is looking for a new book to read, she is one of the top authors i will jump to to recommend!  She writes really nice clean books that anyone could read, Love them!

Delaney's peace I think this is my favorite book of hers right now, but the whole series is great!

All of her books are on Kindle Unlimited and if you look at the author notes you might find my name in a few :)  Go check out this great ladies books!

Wrapping presents

Wrapping Christmas presents is one of my favorite things to do.  I have no idea why, i just like it.  Friday was shopping day, today was wrapping day.  be prepared for pictures :P
I am very very cheap, this is last years wrapping paper that those heathens i have, have played with, don't worry i'll still use it :P

The start on my nice comfy bed with the door locked (which the 4 yo opened a hundred and 50 times)  got the stocking stuff out of the way and started on Migo's presents, notice the mobigo2, $30 on clearence at walmart, i'm attempting to get them off my phone for games.

This is my good job, see i made all that paper work :P
And then i forgot what i was doing and cut double the paper i needed, don't worry i used the extra for clothes, no boxes for this family, straight paper .
all done and hiding in my closet so hopefully the 2 youngest do not open before christmas.  and if you look close enough that is baby powder on my clothes Thank you Jay Dog.

Throughly bored yet?

Princess of Thorns

I read romance books.  Christian, historical, lost love, found love, new love, hard core, soft core, smut etc. etc.  if it's in the romance section i'm going to give it a go.  I however am not a fan of fantasy romance books, vampires and werewolves etc. Not really my style so i avoid them.
Well an author friend of mine writes young adult fantasy books.  a month or so ago i read her book My so called death and I really enjoyed it, so when she asked me to read and review her book releasing tomorrow, I jumped on it.

So for the first time in years, I received in the mail and read a hard cover book, not a kindle, it was nice and different.

And she even signed it!

So I start to read this and have great trouble putting it down.  At this point i realize why i love my kindle app on the phone, it travels with me and i can read with the light off after the kiddos go to bed. But fear not, i stayed in the living room and read half the book in one night. (it's that addicting) Then finished it in the course of 2 more days.  In perfect time for it's release.
I am slowly becoming a fan of fantasy books, at least this type.  Reading about Aurora and Niklaas' adventure in saving her Brother, His life and the world they know was fun and addicting.  The bonus with this book is it's completely clean and my 13 and 11 year old can read it now that I am finished.

Here is my review on goodreads
"This is from my typical reading preference, but I loved the change of pace. I thoroughly enjoyed reading Ror and Niclaas story as they as Ror works to save her "friend" and Niklaas looks for Ror's "sister" Aurora.
A what happened after sleeping beauty woke up story was a great fantasy read. The quick friendship built between Ror and Niklaas on their journey to saving Jor is strong, but is it strong enough to the lies and half truths or omitted truths passing between the two. Who can they trust, who will help and who is Helping the Ogre queen?
Just a great read.
This is the second Stacy Jay young adult book i've read and i love them both. Thank you for the great read."

Get this book, read it and share with your teens!

Stacey is running a contest on her Facebook page in prep for the release
